Question description

A legacy system is any old system that uses a mainframe or minicomputer to process transactions or online inquiries to databases. Organizations continue to use them since they cannot be replaced or redesigned.

Despite the problematic situations a legacy system may lead a company into, there are more compelling reasons for keeping them in the organizations. Reasons like the cost of redesigning a huge system and 100% availability demanded by the system are two very common ones. This in turn initiates the need for software and design engineers to keep them up and running.

Use the Internet to find jobs related to legacy systems, and describe three skills desired by employers. Find three jobs, that is, one for a programmer, one for a database administrator, and one for a computer operator.

Write a paragraph for each type of job explaining the skills desired, the years of experience needed, and the specialized knowledge needed by candidates. Write a 1- to 2-page paper to include your understanding of a legacy system and summarize what you have learned. In a separate page, cite the sources in the correct APA format.

Submit the paper in a Microsoft Word document to the W2: Assignment 2 Dropbox by Tuesday, July 29, 2014.
