The case study presented depicts the bibliography of Sheryl Sandberg, chief operating
officer at Facebook. She is second to the company’s CEO. Mark Zuckerberg. Although she has
the same shares with Mark, she has decided to be a chief operating officer. She is the world’s
famous female COO and also an author with bestselling books. She has used participative theory
in conducting her leadership practice. The participative approach emphasizes the reader's active
involvement in running the business or an organization (Ohland, 2018).
Her recent book is aimed at promoting the role of women. Being one of the most
influential women in the world, she has used her influence to empower women across the globe.
In her book Lean In, she focuses on helping other women to be successful in their businesses.
For the book to reach different people in different countries, she has used different languages to
convey the message of her book (Ohland, 2018). For instance, in France, it is called En Avant
Toutes, meaning 'forward all.' The main aim of writing the book in different languages with
different opportunities in different countries is to provide the same opportunities for all women.
In the book, she states that her success has not come from hard work but from breaking the
internal barriers within her. However, when the book was released, there was much dispute to it.
The first reply to the book is that it was easy for the fifth most powerful woman in the world to
say that (Ohland, 2018).
In the study case discussed, there are several theories, both leadership and motivational
theories that are applicable to the case study. Leadership theory, basically explains how
Sandberg has applied his leadership on Facebook (Ohland, 2018). Leadership theories are an
explanation of leadership styles. They are used to analyze how the administration is conducted
and predicate the possible outcome of a given leadership style. The theories of leadership are
trait, behavioral, contingency, and integrative theory.
