What is the existential idea of the self?
When an individual is subjected to a hard scenario such as dehumanizing experience, it
results in a scenario where the “self” deteriorates (Mitchell, 2015). This was the case with
Sherman McCoy, who was subjected to a dehumanizing experience due to vehicular
manslaughter. Further, if college students are introduced to sensory depression, it would result in
a scenario where they start experiencing hallucinations. When the self is denied some aspects
which illustrate its image, it disintegrates (Mitchell, 2015). This raises concerns about whether
the self is real.
A primary view of the nature of human beings holds the assumption that the reformation
or the disintegration that the self usually undergoes is, to some extent, a good thing.
Additionally, human beings are made of layers, and this is both health as well as reasonable. The
view of artichoke contradicts that of the avocado, which stipulates that the self has an inner core.
