Suicide bombing is one of the most popular terrorist tactics used today. While most of the world sees this tactic as barbaric and cannot understand why anyone would agree to using this tactic, there is a school of thought that justifies its use.
RiazHassanis an Australian Research Council Professorial Fellow and Emeritus Professor in the Department of Sociology,FlindersUniversity. In January 2010, he wrote a piece titled Life as a Weapon: Making Sense of Suicide Bombings
- In a well-written paper:
- a. Write an essay outlining the justifications for suicide bombing as discussed by Mr. Hassan. In addition find an example of an actual suicide terrorism incident, describe the circumstances and compare and contrast those circumstances with M. Hassan's piece.
- b. Make sure your discussion reflects themes in Chapters 5 through 6 of our textbook.

Abstract
This paper provides examination on justification for suicide bombings. It focuses on
research done by Professor Riaz Hassan who has several arguments about the widespread global
threats of suicide bombings in western countries. Vigorous discussion about the causes and
driving factors to suicide bombings led Mr. Hassan in discussing different social factors which
lead to suicide bombings as opposed to the common perceived causes. Political reasons,
humiliation, feelings of revenge are the major subtropics discussed associated with the rise of
suicide bombings. With the Islamic countries being the pioneers of suicide bombing, global
organizations are taking action to maintain global peace.
The paper describes the terrorism action of September 11 2001 where many lives were
lost and property was vandalized. It compares and contrasts the circumstances of this example
with the claims made by Hassan. The paper concludes by calling upon national leaders to
intervene on serious social issues affecting their subjects so as to reduce the high number of
suicide bombings.
