Running head: GUN CONTROL IS EFFECTIVE Gun Control is Effective Name Institution 1 GUN CONTROL IS EFFECTIVE 2 Gun Control is Effective Introduction Have you ever wondered if there are laws that control how people use their firearms? Indeed, there are established laws that have existed for more than 80 years. Millions of guns are in private hands including those that are designed for military operations. So, should people feel safe that there are laws that are protecting them against gun violence? The growing concerns of gun violence prompted the United States government to establish the 1934 National Firearms Act that stands to rebuke gun lobbying. The majority of the Americans have never heard of this, but the reality stands out to be that gun control is indeed useful in controlling gun possesion and reducing the number of gun-related crimes. Reasons for Gun Control Effectiveness The National Firearms Act, regulates gun registration and conducts background checks on those seeking to purchase weapons. Leaders of the National Rifle Association rarely talk about the Firearms Act because they are limited in their production and registration of firearms. Photographing and fingerprints are being used in the registration as part of the key gun control scheme (Bloomberg, 2013). Not only did the National Firearm Act mandate registration of firearms but also created national databases of the gun owners and their mug shots with the weapon’s serial numbers, the type of weapons, as well as their fingerprints. Therefore, stolen weapons are to be reported immediately to the ATF (Kalesan et al., 2016). In the past, gun owners were believed to very dangerous. They are lobbying against gun ownership and are trying to reduce the number of guns that fall into private purchases. This is so because the number of registered weapons is less compared to the number of weapons possessed by people. GUN CONTROL IS EFFECTIVE 3 Gun production is strictly licensed and limited to only a few individuals to reduce the number of firearms that are out to the public. Manufacturing and collecting of firearms are appealed by the National Firearm Act and preapproved by the local enforcement officer (Bloomberg, 2013). Firearms are expensive to purchase and acquisition of costly and many machine guns draws the attention of the law enforcement agencies. People with registered weapons can end up paying $40,000 for a machine gun. Spending so much money on a rifle calls for concerns (Kalesan et al., 2016). People often buy the firearms to protect themselves or cause harm or damage to others. Sadly, more violence is seen and involves guns or other forms of weapons. For that reason, people are controlled when purchasing firearms. Unregistered weapons are being hunted and confiscated by the government with gun owners required to carry permits. What people fail to understand is that gun registration is not an infringement of rights, but rather an act to protect the public from criminals and misuse of the weapons. According to the A.T.F, the registered gun owners rarely get involved in crimes. Classified weapons do not show up in crime scenes as opposed to unregistered weapons. There were only a few felony convictions between 2006 and 2014 of registered gun owners when compared to those with unregistered guns (Bloomberg, 2013). Only a few people are required to carry weapons with the NFA monitoring reducing gun-related violence from registered gun owners. This should be the case in a bid to reduce crime. Conclusion Gun control in the form of registration is stronger now than before. Even if the National Rifle Association feels threatened by this, the fact remains to be that government has controlled gun ownership through the NFA. People who have registered firearms rarely commit crimes. This is so because they are aware that they would be quickly traced and arrested with substantial GUN CONTROL IS EFFECTIVE 4 evidence. With this in mind, it could be said that registration fosters responsibility and its success on controlling gun ownerships render NRA’s claims as irrational. The NRA’s claims against the NFA is nonsensical as they increase the burden on law-abiding gun owners. In short, there is a lot of evidence that proves that gun control is indeed useful. Registration prevents gun owners from participating in crime while the limited production of firearms reduces the number of weapons that are possessed by private individuals. Introduction

Have you ever wondered if there are laws that control how people use their firearms?
Indeed, there are established laws that have existed for several years. Millions of guns are in
private hands including those that are designed for military operations. So, should people feel
safe that there are laws that are protecting them against gun violence? To the majority of the
Americans, gun ownership is still a problem that needs to be controlled before it gets out of
hand. Worse still, many people are experiencing violent gun-related crimes. The reality is that
the number of unregistered firearms is also increasing creating fear among the people (Siegel et
al., 2014). So what does this means? Is the gun control policy really working or is it simply there
to claim that the government is intervening? For that reason, the growing concerns of gun
violence prompted the United States government to establish the 1934 National Firearms Act
that stands to rebuke gun lobbying. The majority of the Americans have never heard of this, but
the reality stands out to be that gun control is indeed useful in controlling gun possession and
reducing the number of gun-related crimes.
What is Gun Control?
Gun control refers to the policies that regulate the manufacture, sale, transfer, and
possession of firearms. For that reason, gun control is aimed at reducing crime and the effects of
gun-related violence (Boylan, Kates, Lindsey & Gugala, 2013). This is so because the increase in
gun ownership creates more risks of having a raised rate of gun violence. On the other hand,
those who are in conflict with gun control argue that the policy does not reduce violence but
rather infringe on the rights os individuals. Even though the number of gun ownership is thought
