Effects of Coronavirus Pandemic on Local Business
The coronavirus pandemic is a disaster affecting several regions of America and
countries across the world. I live in Massachusetts. In Massachusetts, the consequences and
impact of the virus are disastrous. First of all, the area recorded more than 15,000 confirmed
cases that led to over 350 deaths (Mass.gov, 2020). As a result of this alarming situation, the
state decided to take action by restricting the moves of the populations, closing some
businesses, and ordering people to stay home as much as they can. Because of these measures
intended to stop the propagation of this virus, the local economy regressed significantly in
Massachusetts. Nobody goes to work anymore and the majority of the public spaces are
closed. The people in Massachusetts only buy what is necessary for the survival of their
families. Such a trend is detrimental to the local economy because it threatens the survival of
several families and businesses. Still, form an economic perspective, companies are unable to
pay taxes and this represents an important loss at the state and federal levels.
In Massachusetts, the spectrum of the companies and businesses affected by this
pandemic is very wide. Bars, pubs, and other businesses operating in the industry of
entertainment are closed. This adversely affects the owners and employees of these businesses
because they will no longer have a salary. Indeed, the authorities of Massachusetts
commanded the closure of all the spaces where people use to gather (Mass.gov, 2020). In
