Question 1
One of the financial consequences of obesity is that it makes someone so poor. This is
because everyone wants his or her body slim and in this case, if he or she is obese, a lot of
money is used to see the success of that. On the other hand, there are two types of costs that are
usually associated with obesity. The costs are both direct as well as indirect costs. These costs
are generally associated with both the treatment of obesity and any obesity-related question that
may be experienced by an individual. The first one is direct costs (Colditz & Wang, 2008). These
are those costs that result from inpatient and outpatient health services. They include radiological
tests, therapy drugs, laboratory tests, and others.
The second cost is indirect which is defined as the resource incurred as a result of health
condition. The direct cost is further divided into various categories. The first category is the
value of work that is lost. This is the total number of days that have been lost by both employer
as well as employee (Colditz & Wang, 2008). As a result of the state of obesity, employees may
miss work for a certain period due to certain reasons. One of the reasons is their long-term
disability. The employee may experience premature or unexpected death. They do not work at
full capacity as they are supposed to work were at the time they may not finish the tasks assigned
to them by their superior.
The second category relates to insurance. A larger or rather higher life insurance
premium is paid by the employer who is paying for an employee who is obese (Colditz & Wang,
2008). The vice versa of the statement is the employer will incur little insurance premium to pay
for those employees that have no case relating to obesity. People with obesity are going to face

financial consequences by paying a higher insurance premium as compared to people who are
not obese.
Wages are the last category of indirect cost. A study had been carried out to confirm that
employees with obesity receive lower wages (Colditz & Wang, 20...
