A Wild West hero- Jesse Woodson James
Introduction
Jesse James was born in 1847 in Missouri, Clay County, an area that was mainly
occupied by people from Kentucky and Tennessee areas (Breihan, 2017). His father was a
successful farmer and died when Jesse was three years old. Jesse and his family were dedicated
Confederates during the American civil war. At sixteen years of age, Jesses’ brother joined the
Confederate Army. Jesse and his brother joined Bloody Bill Anderson, who led a group of
bushwhackers in 1864 and became well known for brutally treating the Union soldiers (Breihan,
2017).
Jesse Woodson James was one of the members who were involved in the Centralia
Massacre, which led to the death and harm of 22 unarmed Union soldiers. All his family
members were sent out of Clay County as a punishment for this. When the American Civil War
