Question 1: Political impact of Covid19 on the GCC region in general
Covid-19 was first identified in January 2020. Originating from Wuhan, China, the disease
has rapidly spread across the universe. The epidemic has led to the rising of fear and uncertainty
as its cure is yet to be determined. More than 60 000 deaths have been confirmed globally, with
most counties declaring it as a state of emergency (Ali, 2020). Nevertheless, the numbers of the
affected are increasing at an alarming rate. The Covid-19 epidemic has walloped several countries
and regions, leading to economic and political crises. As a result, most governments are taking
dramatic measures ranging from forbidding public meetings, curfew, and flight bans to curb its
spread. Notably, the Covid-19 budgets are hefty as the rationales necessary for combating it are
expensive to achieve. Even with the looming stimulus packages, most economies are likely to
suffer considerable deficits in the long run. This paper focuses on the political impact the disease
has caused to the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC).
The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) is a political and economic alliance for countries
originating from the Middle East. It’s composed of countries like the United Arab Emirates, Qatar,
Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Bahrain, and Oman. Important to note, the Gulf Cooperation Council was
created to foster a conducive environment for economic growth and progress (Zhuang et al., 2020).
Trade unions and regional blocs were established to facilitate the process of economic growth and
development. With the Covid-19 attack, most activities have been suspended in the region to
reduce its high rate of spread significantly. Besides, a series of actions have been taken by various
governments to reduce the high rate of spreading. And this has impacted the political relationship
existing not only in the GCC region but also the other parts of the world.

The political relationship of Iran and Qatar

In countries like Iran, Covid-19 was spreading at a rapidly increasing rate. It’s believed
that the first transmission of the disease was from Iran as it was an epicenter for transfer a while
ago. Therefore, other countries like Qatar had to ban all flights to Iran and from Iran. The
declaration was made to combat the spread of the disease to the region (Selmi & Bouoiyour, 2020).
In the course, business and other relational activities between the two countries stopped
progressing on as usual. States rely on one another for the transportation of goods and services,
which are necessary. With the flight bans, the other countries are likely to lack various products
and items which are critical in their economy. Lack of such products poses a significant impact on
the country’s economy, thus affecting it politically.
Furthermore, the disease has embroiled political tensions in this region, as the number of
opportunities available is minimal. Some of the measures taken by the governments to combat the
spread of the Covid-19 has significantly impacted job opportunities. For example, most of the
airport employees have lost their jobs to the ban on flights in the region. In the long run, the affected
individuals will not be able to support themselves. This burden will then be translated into the
government, which will require a financial stretch to satisfy the people. Despite the looming
epidemic, the government has a duty of protecting and taking care of its citizens, as that is one of
the key reasons.
The other critical political impact which has been posed by the Covid-19 epidemic on the
relationship between Iran and Q...
