referring to stopping by woods on a snowy evening by Robert frost and the second coming by w.b yeats , discuss the use of extended metaphor to reveal a theme.

Oct 17th, 2017

An extended metaphor is when a metaphor is used early in the work. It is then prolonged and developed and used in the story. For instance, in the snowy evening, Frost introduces the woods, and then carries on his story focusing on the woods as the main object or subject (depending on perspective). In reality, the woods will not be the obstacle, but Frost instead of coming out of the metaphor and talking about obstacles, continues the rest of his story focused on the woods.
