Background:
Magnesium is a light transition metal (in the Alkaline Earth family on the periodic table) and fairly
common in the earth’s crust but never found in pure form due to its high reactivity. Magnesium is
found in more than 60 minerals including dolomite, magesite, brucite, carnallite, talc and olivine.
Its melting point is 1202 degrees F , while its temperature burning is 5610 degrees F (3100 degrees
C).
