1.Research Paper (20 points): This is an extension of the case provided earlier. You are required to provide recommendations using sound management theory, principles and evidence to assist the CEO. This is an individual assignment and each student will submit her/his own recommendations.   Papers should be approximately 8-10 pages long (double spaced, font-size 11 or 12, Times New Roman, margins 1’-1.5’) providing evidence based management solutions based on the SWOT conducted earlier and should include an executive summary. The objective of this paper is to explain how to actually apply and usespecific management theories, principles, concepts, methods, techniques, and tools to solve real world management problems. This work will improve your thinking, writing, and health care management abilities. You should locate and cite at least two peer-reviewed journal articles to support your recommendations, and use APA 6.0 system of citation ONLY in this paper. Points will be deducted if the articles are not peer-reviewed journal articles.  Recommendations need to be feasible, grounded in management theory and/or practice and evidence-based. Students are required to submit their papers online by the date indicated before 11.59 pm EST.  Extensions need to requested and approved at least 5 days in advance of the submission deadline. Late submissions will attract deductions of points for each working day beyond the deadline.  

Grading Rubric: Your paper will be graded based on the following three competencies: application HCMN305, critical thinking, and effective writing.

The analysis of Blake Memorial Hospital SWOT analysis is an evaluation of four words the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats that could help Reid to build the hospital. Although, in the SWOT analysis there were internal issues such as financial crisis, employees were dissatisfied and low healthcare quality. On the other hand, there were the external issues like lack of technology and poverty. Reid has the options of closing six offsite clinics or continue to running them. Meanwhile, he has many missions to do such as offer a good service for low income patients in Marksville, take all the responsibilities and maintain the patients who are not insured (Konver 1991). Reid is the chief now and he is having many tasks to do such as improving the quality of healthcare and the financial Health of Blake Hospital. Reid believes that he must be very strict and he got the leadership that can rise the qualities in the hospital. Reid’s challenge is to increase balance hospital’s long term. Reid has to be a strategic leader where he should have the power to take others in confidence in his organization to provide him flexibility to make daily decisions, which will lead to the hospital’s long-term growth and survival, and promote its short-term operating deficit (Rowe & Nejad, 2009). There is so many stakeholders in the hospital to deal with them he supposed to be very good communicator and willing to find solutions and it’s good to have a good relationship with Stakeholders and be more social. Reid focus is on coordinating with various Stakeholders. Reid have to establish a good working relationship with Clara Bryant to continue having funding from the government for the hospital. Bryant is the Commissioner of Health services in Marksville also the director of clinics at the Blake hospital (Konver 1991). His main strength is leadership, Confident, Communicator. Weaknesses: First of all, Blake Memorial Hospital services are poor quality. Although, cutting the low number of the staff and trying to maintain the same rate of full time employees would lower the quality. This is found necessary due to the financial issues. Another weakness is the location of the hospital was non- strategic. In addition, the clinics of the hospital were old and not big enough space. To add tobthat they will lose a lot of funding. The main weakness is lack of funding that causes all the other shortcomings. Opportunities: Reid’s aim is to help the low income populations of Marksville so he presents his case to the board. The board members convinced that he understands the environment and he will develop an effective plan. Reid have to focus also on a long range plan to change the hospital within 3 to 5 years. On other hand, establishing a good relationship with other hospitals for equipment and purchase of medication is essential to increase the success of the hospital. (Kovner, 1991). Although, he needs to invest in establishing new technology machines like information technology that will make the hospital more formal. The new information system will determine who is not covered by insurance and who is eligible for free or reduce the cost care. This will help to plan the financial better. Reid can also work in his relationship with the local government to obtain funding to improve the health care in the clinics. (Konver 1991). Threats: Reid has only a few days to accomplish the seventy million budget and to be accepted by the hospital board. Raid needs to make a decision in the conclusion either to close the clinics or keeping the clinics and running them as he is stuck between Blake’s responsibilities. The biggest threat is the lack of time and having many tasks. Another threat is comparison with St Barnabs. St Barnabs is located in a wealthy neighborhood which is in the opposite side to Blake Memorial clinics. There is comparison between them which can make a threat. Executive summary
There are many challenges facing the Blake Memorial Hospital’s that the new CEO,
Bruce Reid is required to accomplish. Blake Memorial Hospital is facing numerous challenges
with the most challenging and critical issue at the moment being increase in the cost of operation
that has being accompanied by a decrease in the quality of care provided by the hospital that puts
the overall existence of the hospital at risk. Consequently, the overall revenue incurred by the
hospital has reduced and the facility no longer provides a steady source of income (Kovner,
1991). With these challenges at hand that face Blake Memorial Hospital, it is highly critical that
Bruce Reid come up with various initiatives from the recommendations provided in the paper
and use them to boost the quality of care provided by the facility as well as manage the issue of
money control that seems to be spinning out of control. Bruce also has a couple of days left for
him to finalize the $70 million budget that need to be submitted to the hospital’s board for
approval.
The evaluation of Blake Memorial Hospital focused on four critical areas that are the
strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, as well as the threats that have direct impact on the
