Executive summary
There are many challenges facing the Blake Memorial Hospital’s that the new CEO,
Bruce Reid is required to accomplish. Blake Memorial Hospital is facing numerous challenges
with the most challenging and critical issue at the moment being increase in the cost of operation
that has being accompanied by a decrease in the quality of care provided by the hospital that puts
the overall existence of the hospital at risk. Consequently, the overall revenue incurred by the
hospital has reduced and the facility no longer provides a steady source of income (Kovner,
1991). With these challenges at hand that face Blake Memorial Hospital, it is highly critical that
Bruce Reid come up with various initiatives from the recommendations provided in the paper
and use them to boost the quality of care provided by the facility as well as manage the issue of
money control that seems to be spinning out of control. Bruce also has a couple of days left for
him to finalize the $70 million budget that need to be submitted to the hospital’s board for
approval.
The evaluation of Blake Memorial Hospital focused on four critical areas that are the
strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, as well as the threats that have direct impact on the
institution. These identified SWOT analysis is critical in helping Blake reestablish the company
and bring it back to its feet. There were both internal issues facing the company such as financial
crisis, poor quality of healthcare, as well as dissatisfaction of the employees with their work,
there existed external issues as well such as lack of technology as well as high level of poverty
facing the people who live near the facility. Blake has numerous options art hand to consider in
eradicating the above highlighted crises that include closing six offsite clinics to boost the
functioning and manage the crisis facing the main hospital or to continue running these clinics
(Yukl, 2002). While contemplating to provide solutions to his existing crisis, Blake also has
