The end of the Cold War : When Mikhail Gorbachev granted the reins of power in the Soviet Union in 1985, no one expected the revolution he would bring. He was dedicated reformer, Gorbachev introduced the policies of glasnost and perestroika to the USSR.
Following the three months of continuous bitter fighting, the Soviets and Finns met and signed The Moscow Peace Treaty on March 12, 1940. Ironically, disdain a heroic effort, the Finns ended up granting slightly more land than the Soviets had initially asked for, around 11 % of their dominion territory, though the region of Petsamo, which was captured by the Red Army during the fighting, was returned to Finland in agreement with the peace accord. The people of Finland questioned whether or not they should have agreed to peace considering how well they acquitted themselves, but ultimately both sides were cheer to see the return to peace. In total, the Soviets took almost three thousand  casualties during the fighting,  the war had a terrible effect on both nations.
