“To the Promised Land” Plot Summary
In the chapter, Peter Simon describes his scary encounter with the FBI as he was brought
in for questioning. From his description, it is clear that the questioning process involved the
infliction of physical pain. When Peter was asked whether Moses had been trying to get him to
help Moses in creating the program, Peter answered “No.” However, the Agent became physical,
which terrified Peter. After being allowed to home, he found Monique had not arrived and
decided to watch the news He starts to think to himself, why it is called ‘news,’ whereas there is
nothing new that occurs (Boylan, M., 2015). Later he receives a package containing Moses’
journal. The anomaly is the mistreatment he went through from the FBI, which should be in the
frontline to protect our rights, thus highlighting the principle of good and evil.
Simon admits that the letter was a surprise to him and wondered why Moses sent the
journal to him. In the Journal, Moses highlights the dilemma that he found himself in in the
course of his duty. Representing Water Disposal System Inc. was a big deal to Moses, as the
company was involved in handling industrial waste products in the country. However, as the
laws changed, the company found itself contrary to the law. Also, the company’s strategy of
using clay seals to hold the chemicals was not effective, leading to a leakage that resulted in the
