Nursing remains one of the most critical areas in contemporary society. In
contemporary society, nursing is the glue that holds patients’ healthcare journey together.
Throughout the whole patient experience and every time there is an individual who needs
health care, nurses work tirelessly in order to establish as well as protect the needs of the
patients (Huber, 2017). From ensuring that patients get the most accurate diagnosis to
educating the public regarding critical health issues, nurses can better be described as
indispensable owing to their role in safeguarding public health. Some of the core
responsibilities of nurses include recording medical symptoms and history of patients,
collaborating with teams in order to plan for patient care, advocating for the patients’
wellbeing and health, administering medications and treatments, performing diagnostic tests
and educating patients regarding management of illness (Tono de Oliveira et al., 2015).
Considering the critical roles and responsibilities played by nurses, it is imperative to note
that the lack of enough nurses can have devastating effects on public healthcare. Thus,
employee turnover in certain healthcare can have an enormous negative impact on the
provision of quality healthcare. This paper provides a critical analysis of the different
approaches in leadership and management in resolving the issue of nursing turnover.
Understanding the issue of Nursing Turnover
Nursing turnover refers to the percentage of the number of nursing who leave one
nursing facility to another and get replaced by others. Measuring the degree of employee
turnover is helpful to employers since it helps the management in determining the reasons
