The global smart instrument was an intriguing platform, one that helped me keenly
evaluate myself based on a listing of five assessment criteria namely (Independent vs
Independent, Egalitarian vs Status, Risk vs Certainty, Direct vs Indirect, Task vs
Relationship), and compare this with other nations. From a professional perspective, the
insight that one acquires during the assessment plays a vital role in dictating the leadership
philosophy that they embrace as the respective character plots their development path.
Personally, having completed the profile analysis, my results showcased that I was
interdependent, moderately status-oriented, moderately certainty oriented, moderately taskoriented and moderately direct (figure 1). Given that each individual’s profile is vital in
dictating how the partaker works effectively especially with individuals across the globe or
within the workspace; I was able to realize that I am a team worker who respects hierarchy
and often appreciates the need for strong leadership. From an execution perspective, I tend to
be thorough and pay close attention to details; while I am naturally a quick learner who gets
tasks completed in a timely manner.
A comprehensive analysis of my profile from an interdependent criterion score
showcased that I place great value in cooperation and group harmony, as such I tend to derive
my identity from group affiliation. This aspect I primarily related to the communist culture in
China which is founded on family values that lead its citizens to develop a sense of
obligation, and loyalty to the ascribed groups (Tu, 2017). Under the scope of status, my rating
was moderate indicating that I prescribed to the ideology of observing protocol with my
concept of power and authority being fit if only it is reserved for the few. Additionally, a
moderate scoring meant that I adapt my behavior depending on the relative status of a
particular context.
From a certainty perspective, my moderate score meant that I valued thoroughness
over speed, and readily invested time to conduct adequate background research. Besides this,
I often was bound to establish proper procedures before I commenced working on a project.
