Abstract
The experiment discussed herein aims at identifying two unknown organisms from a given
suspension. Twelve possible organisms could be found in the given suspension as purported by
table 1 (refer to the list of tables). Through the experiment, the researcher utilizes the dichotomous
key to come up with relevant and appropriate tests that could be carried out to identify the two
unknown organisms correctly. The researcher uses the gram stain test to determine organisms that
would test positive and those that would test negative for the gram test. The organisms contained
in the suspension tested negative for the gram stain test. The researcher classified the organisms
based on their shape as a morphological feature. At this point, the organisms were classified as
rods and coccus. A lactose test was then carried out, followed by other tests, including the urease
test, lactose test, methyl red test as well as the nitrate reduction test. The researcher then utilized
the dichotomous key (refer to figure 1) to trace the organism purported by the results from the
tests. It was found out that the two unknown organisms contained in the give suspension were
Enterobacter aerogenes and Alkaligenes faecalis.
