Describe the structure of an atom
Mainly, an atom comprises of electrons, protons, and neutrons in its structure. Electrons
are negatively charged while protons are positively charged. On the other hand, neutrons are
neutral. The center of an atom is composed of protons and neutrons, while the electrons revolve
around the nucleus. The combination of the three subatomic particles can determine the charge
of the ion or the atom, relative atomic, as well as the element.
Explain the difference between conductors and insulators
Typically, conductors and insulators differ in various ways;
Conductors can pass electricity or through them with ease due to the presence of free electrons,
while insulators cannot transfer electricity so easily and so resist electricity (Wang et al., 2019).
In conductors, the atoms lack tightly bond electrons, thus free to roam in any direction. In
contrast, in insulators, the electrons are tightly bound, thus restricting the movement of electrons
within the nominal range of applied voltage.
Describe how magnesium is used to produce electricity
Magnesium, when mixed with water, generates heat, the boiling water then produces
steam which can be used to drive a turbine. Again, the reaction produces hydrogen, which can be
burned to generate even more energy.
