Replies to 2 discussion board post 100-150 words Discussion Board 1 After watching the Tegrity video about psychology and theology I would and have done already in the past support the integration model. I hold more closely to this model than any other model but I also believe in the medical model as well. As we all know, When we are stressed the body begins to not operate as well. During stressful time we may find ourselves getting sick or having headaches, or maybe just aches and pains. This is because stress and depression effect the body in so many ways. As far as the medical model goes, I do believe that if someone has a certain issue with a chemical in balance or anything of that nature then they should go see a doctor to help balance those chemicals out while seeing a counselor, whether it is a pastor or a psychologist to help the counselee with getting better mentally, psychically and spiritually. On a Christian perspective of the medical model, in the tegrity video Susan Devon states (Donovan 2013) that if someone were to come in for depression then the reason would be because of sin. In the Biopsychosocial model there are some believe to this I do support. Genes do have a big role in who you are and how well or not well certain life experiences effect you. Two siblings can go through something terrible abut only one of them will be effected in a negative way through there life and the other may move on and forget about what has happened to them. (King 2013) "Not everyone who experiences childhood neglect develops depression" Jason Discussion Board 2 Among the views mentioned in the video, I most agree with the integration model. I believe that everything in the body works together and affects each other, and I do not think the mind and body are two separate issues that should be treated apart from one another. I believe it would be wise to treat the person as a whole by looking at all 6 areas (spirit, thought, imagination, feelings, actions and body) before determining treatment (Donovan, 2013). I agree whole heartedly with the video that regardless of whether or not someone is considering going into counseling as a profession that if we are truly living for Christ people will be drawn to us for help. I have had a lot of people come to me for guidance, and it can be intimidating because I know if I give someone bad advice that there could be consequences and I could end up making their problems worse rather than better. I do believe that mental disorders can be real physical conditions and not just the result of sin needing to be dealt with. I also agree that mental and physical conditions can largely be attributed to our fallen state rather than a personal sin. I do not see how things such as thyroid issues or cancer can be considered a result of personal sin. This is why I believe the best form of counseling could possibly require cooperation between a counselor, medical Dr. and a Pastor. PSYCHOLOGY AND THEOLOGY 2 I believe the Bible is very important in dealing with all of life’s problems and that many times our issues can be solved by simply looking at the right scripture, but sometimes there is a deeper need that should be met by a physician. People come to me a lot with questions about why God would put them through a situation, or what would be the scripturally right way to handle a situation. In those cases, I’ve found that a good old fashioned Bible study can suffice. Summer
