Explainhow politics within an organization influences a
project manager’s efforts to create and
project estimates for
time and cost to stakeholders.
can political issues be minimized on IT projects?
Politics within an organization is and always have been a sort black hole to many companies . Most of the ideas never get supported due to bias or grudges . A project manager which itself is a tough task has to bear the additional burden of this . If people who have to work as a group are divided on certain issues it makes the work not only challenging to the project manager but also quality of his work may get affected . Sometimes there is pressure or bias on a certain issue and the project manager himself is not comfortable with a certain approach but in order to make the work progress he may have to sacrifice a part or whole of his approach .
Sometimes wrong decisions taken due to bias or due to politics tend to cause significant loss to the stakeholders due to lower quarterly earnings or profits . Politics in IT is similar to those in other fields . Sometimes ideas are not chosen or someone else is favoured even though the idea is less appealing . Sometimes people are removed or demoted because of the friction between the groups .
Politics in IT though present widely just like in any other field , it too can be reduced to certain extent -
Distribution of power within the system . A single person should not have all the keys of judgement .
Before policies are made and decisions are taken open debates within the organization should take place with the scrutiny of the stakeholders .
