a
Culture, gender, language, as well as religion, have a significant influence on a personal
identity. A collection of these elements forms a person’s beliefs as well as values, and these
ideologies define the identity of an individual. Ideologies are sets of ideas or principles
explaining the world as well as the place we take in it (Castells, 2011). Growing up as a child, I
learned many things that have built my way of perceiving the world. I have come to unlearn
some of these learned ideologies since they conflict with the current state of the world.
I was born and reared in a family and a culture that values individual independence. In
this society, every individual has a right to freedom and independence or even personal
responsibility, in some instances. The society around me was averagely informed. This setup has
built my self-concept and thus esteeming some world aspects while underrating others. The
family believes in oneness as well as equality of the constituent members and thus instilling the
concept of respect for my virtues. This family social, economic status has raised me respecting
education and in this, I have made a career.
I grew in an era that the marginalized individuals like the women and the persons living
with disabilities were gaining stamina in their undertakings, and had many opportunities. These
people were becoming more important in the societal projects and thus more equal to the rest.
This state of things has built in me the logic of possibility as well as optimism and by this, I grew
willing to accept a challenge and take risks. I grew up in an era of substantial economic
prosperity and great wealth and thus raising the value of instant material wealth and gratification
highly.
