4) In figure 8-42, a block of mass m = 12 kg is released from rest on a frictionless incline of angle θ= 30o. Below the block is a spring that can be compressed 2.0 cm by a force of 270 N.


The block momentarily stops when it compresses the spring by 5.5 cm.

  1. What is the spring constant?

5) A 0.30 kg softball has a velocity of 15m/s at an angle of 35o below the horizontal just before making contact with the bat.

  1. If the ball is in contact with the bat for 2.5 msec, what is magnitude and direction of average force on the softball?
