Description

Information Management for Government

Final Project

Develop a comprehensive report about an information technology application/tool such as a software, hardware/technology or information management system to explain its impact on the primary users and the society in general. The final project is designed to learn about information systems (i.e., a “tool”) that impact our lives in meaningful ways. In preparing the report you must describe its evolution, history, usage and implications for human and social development.

You must develop the story of the tool by discussing how it had the impact, who was affected by it and how. Discuss the main players of the tool and the future that holds for the tool.

How to prepare for the project?

Start with the story of a problem or situation that you would like to change. Then find the tool that best helps to solve the situation. For example, let us say you want to write a story about the homeless situation in inner cities and how technology might help improve the situation. First, write the stories about homeless population in America. Second, describe the technology, its purpose, and how it can help alleviate the homeless situation.

  2. San Francisco Area App (Links to an external site.)

Final Deliverable(s)

The deliverable is a multimedia presentation preferably through Story Maps (Links to an external site.) that includes images, video and at least six (6) page narrative text. Tables and videos should all be embedded within the text. I recommend story maps because it is designed to write a story with multimedia. The whole story is your Report.

Canvas submission:

Please submit the link to the story map and print the same story map in PDF. [Have the link in the PDF document in the Title page at the bottom; remember PDF is the same storymap, you are just printing it in PDF as a backup in case the link does not work for me].

The report should have proper titles and headings, and references (APA style (Links to an external site.)). The report should not exceed 10 pages including text and images and videos. You can have videos linked from YouTube or other sites.

The following sections are required in the story (each section will be graded separately, 100 points total):

  1. Introduction to the “tool.” Explain why it is important to focus on this kind of software/technology/system. (10 points)
  2. History and evolution. Provide details about who invented or designed it and its subsequent development. (10 points)
  3. Primary users of this tool and how it works. Provide details using diagram, process charts etc. with explanations. (10 points)
  4. Explain how the information that is created or processed through the tool can be useful for the society. Highlight if and how it can help build trust among people or businesses. Are there any ethical implications of this tool in a democracy? (10 points)
  5. Explain how the tool relates to the book that you reviewed for the class (5 points). If it relates to the text (Surveillance, Transparency and Democracy), you can discuss the text instead of the book that you reviewed. (10 points)
  6. Analysis: Using Excel worksheet or GIS, show an analysis of the tool (for excel, you can show annual sales, type of product and/or number of users, any other analysis that shows the tools usage/performance in numbers; for GIS, show spatial location distribution using GIS).. Use Excel or GIS, no need for both. (20 points)
  7. Write about the important people related to the tool and highlight major accomplishments/milestones that have been achieved by the tool’s usage. (5 points) (15 points)
  8. Provide a video or video link that explains the impact of the tool or something interesting about the tool. (10 points)
  9. Conclusion: Draw your own conclusions about this project. What have you learned from the project and what are your future thoughts about the tool? How does it relate to public/nonprofit administration? (5 points)

Report submission guidelines

The story should be submitted as a report with a title page, running header with page numbers, and a table of contents (TOC) page. Reference page should be at the end of the report. Images and hyperlinks should be embedded and clearly labeled. Use APA style (double-spaced), 1 ½ inch margin, 12 size font, Times New Roman. Convert the report in PDF format and then submit on canvas.

HOMELESSNESS IN LOS ANGELES

HOMELESSNESS IN LOS ANGELES
1.1

Introduction
More than fifty-eight thousand nine hundred and thirty-six people lack

homes in Los Angeles County. It is a twelve per cent increase in the number of
those homeless from the past years. Seventy-five per cent of these people are
leaving in tents, makeshift houses or their vehicles. As statistics show, out of
five people, three are suffering from homelessness or some other disabling
situations. Five per cent of these people under homelessness are fleeing their
home as a result of domestic violence (Esri, 2020). As seen above, the number
is to rise further in future despite constant support from the government. The
saddening fact about homelessness is that those facing this problem are those
aged between the ages of eighteen to twenty-four years. They occupy up to
sixty-four per cent of the total share of all those homeless. Also, those under
eighteen years are next in the list occupying up to forty-one per cent of the
total number. Some of them get kicked out of their homes, others are runaway
children, others are drug and substance abuse addicts, and other...
