Question Description

There are 4 assignments. 2 Project Schedules, a GANTT Chart project plan, and a status report. The first Project Schedule has a scenario given for it and the second is for the project that I attached about the Kids Center as well as the GANTT chart and status report.


For this assignment, you must prepare a Project Schedule for the Term Paper project described below.

  • Create a Project Schedule for the Term Paper Project using MS Project (or similar tool)

Instructions

  • Your project schedule must include a WBS with deliverables and work packets numbered accordingly
  • Make up realistic durations for each task. Make assumptions as needed.
  • Establish predecessors and successors for tasks as appropriate
  • Create a GANTT chart for this project using MS Project (or similar tool)
  • Capture an image of your task list + GANTT Chart, save the image as a document OR just submit the .mpp file
  • Submit your document to the instructor via Canvas (.mpp, .jpg, .pdf, .gif)

Scenario

  • Assume that you are part of a team of four students.
  • The four of you must prepare a research paper and present your research paper to the rest of the class. (The topic of the paper is irrelevant for this lab exercise...)
  • Your instructor requires you to use the library and online web sites to research the topic.
  • You must also use the EBSCO online research database (for which you do NOT yet have an account.)
  • Your research must include at least 2 books, 2 periodical articles, and 4 different websites.
  • Your paper must be 5-7 pages of content, and must include a cover page and full citation in a bibliography.
  • The paper will be turned in on hard copy in a nice folio or report cover
  • In addition to turning in your research paper, the four of you are required to create a slide presentation summarizing your research.
  • You will present your present your research to the rest of the class in the classroom on the last night of class. Your presentation should take 5 - 10 minutes. Bring your powerpoint slides to class on a flash drive.

Here is a preliminary list of tasks. These are in alphabetical order. You must arrange them into chronological order and define predecessors/successors and durations. Feel free to add tasks as needed.

1. Create an Activity Network Diagram Project Schedule for your Personal Project

        • You can simply create a drawing in an PC-based drawing tool (such as MS Visio) with the final schedule in the format depicted in figure 9.20 in Chapter 9 of your text.

Once you have created your WBS in MS Project, creating the schedule is relatively easy.

Basically, beginning with each work package in the WBS, you must add the following in MS Project.

1. Each task (work package) should be linked to its PREDECESSOR and SUCCESSOR tasks. That is, you know you cannot start on the task until predecessor tasks are completed. Each predecessor/successor must be identified in MS Project.

2. Each task should be assigned a duration. That is, how long will it take to complete this task. This can be entered in minutes, hours or days. But you must use the same timeframe for all tasks in your plan.

3. Each task should be assigned a start date.

Once these items have been entered into MS Project, it will automatically draw your Network Activity Diagram project schedule for you. And, the it will ALSO draw the GANTT chart for you. So if you use MS Project to complete THIS assignment for you, you will pretty much be done with the NEXT assignment as well.


2. You must prepare a GANTT chart project plan for your Personal Project.

  • Using the Work Breakdown Structure you created for your Personal Project, create a project plan for your personal project
  • Your project plan should be in the form of a GANTT chart
  • Your final deliverable can be an IMAGE of the project plan.
  • If your GANTT chart prints as multiple pages, then create one image file per page.

Once you have created your WBS in MS Project, creating a GANTT chart is relatively easy.

Basically, beginning with each work package in the WBS, you must add the following in MS Project.

3. You must create and submit a project status report for your personal project.

  • You may use the standard sample/template project status report provided by your instructor. Or, if your organization has a standard template for a project status report you may use it as an alternate format.
  • Feel free to modify the format of your project status report as you deem necessary.
  • Your final deliverable should be either a MS WORD document or a .pdf file.

Your status report should include (but is not limited to) the following items/sections:

  • The name of the project, date of status report, time period covered (week/month)
  • A summary percent complete for the overall project
  • A “dashboard” showing any areas of concern
  • A description stating WHY the areas of concern are flagged
  • Work completed prior period, Work planned for next period
  • Any open issues requiring attention/resolution
  • Status of specific deliverables/milestones
  • Status of project change requests
  • Summary key metrics
