Question Description

I’m stuck on a Computer Science question and need an explanation.

Wireshark is one of the most widely-used network protocol analyzer. It lets you see what’s happening on your network at a microscopic level and is the preferred standard across many commercial and non-profit enterprises, government agencies, and educational institutions. GlassWire is a free network monitor & security tool with a built-in firewall. Review the features of these two products and explain how you could benefit from using either of these network management tools.

Explanation & Answer

Wireshark and GlassWire Name Institution Wireshark and GlassWire Wireshark is an open-source and free packet analyzer that is used for learning, network analysis, troubleshooting, and the development of network and software communications protocol. Wireshark has the capability of capturing packets in real-time and later displaying them in a human-readable format. It lets a user explore network traffic and inspect individual packets through the help of features such as color coding and filters. This packet analyzer enables the user to know the traffic and how much of it is in their network, how often is the traffic being detected and how much latency exists between specified hops. Color coding is a special feature that is utilized by Wireshark to distinguish between the different types of traffic that detected at a certain period. When using the default settings, black shows the packets with errors, light purple indicates TCP traffic, and light blue shows UDP traffic. In the list of special features, Wireshark contains sample captures that can be loaded and inspected by the user and also allows a user to save their captured packets and use them later. In the case where a specific aspect of a network is to be inspected, Wireshark makes it possible for all other programs utilizing the network to be closed and focus on the desired ones.
