Nursing Leadership

Nursing leadership is essential in promoting positive change in the nursing profession and
ensuring that the future of nursing will be characterized by better service provision. This paper
illustrates how I envision myself in a nursing leadership role and approaches that I would take to
improve the quality of care offered to the patients.
1A. Performance Data Scorecard
The patient population identified are patients admitted in the general medical and surgical
unit of the John Muir Medical Center (JMMC) located in Walnut Creek, California. The facility
is a 554-bed medical center that caters to patients living in the Contra Costa County. It is the
only designated trauma center in the county. The facility works closely with the John Muir
Health Concord Medical Center located in Concord. JMMC offers orthopedic, cancer-related
care, cardiovascular care, and treatment of other general medical and surgical-related care to its
patients. The population identified includes individuals aged 18 years and above who have been
diagnosed with general medical and cases requiring surgery or those requiring post-surgical
management. Most of the general medical cases are linked to chronic conditions like diabetes,
hypertension, high-risk obesity, soft tissue injuries, respiratory illnesses like pneumonia and
COPD, gastrointestinal conditions among others. The goal of care in managing the patients is to
offer individualized services to the patients, treat them with dignity, and promote patient safety.
The table below illustrates the performance data scorecard that will be used in the healthcare
facility.
