The tool that I decided to use is Starting The Conversation (STC). For management and
prevention of chronic diseases, brief but effective dietary tools of assessment are required to do
guiding and counselling, risk determination and progress monitoring in a range of settings. STC
is an eight-item tool of food frequency tailored for use in basic care as well as health promotion
settings. Its main purpose is to investigate the validity, sensitivity and feasibility to change of
STC, which is a simplified screener tool for both assessing and counselling.
Basing on the questions asked, in Starting the Conversation, the purpose is fulfilled.
There is a concern to establish fast foods that have been consumed. Also, there is a need to know
if the fruits were served and if they were served daily to offer guidance and counselling. The
questions are aimed at establishing the frequency of the food to promote health and primary care
settings.
