Leadership research has for too long been focused on "good" and idealized forms of

leadership such as transformative, empowering, authentic and ethical governance but has ignored
the antagonistic part: the dark side (psychopath)


Dark leadership therefore reflects a part of the reality of leadership. However, there is

still a relatively understudied dark part of leadership.


This condition appears to have broad origins, and is viewed as challenging to handle by

mental health practitioners. This is attributed to the reality that individuals with psychopathic
actions have an "ego-syntonic" temperament as found in antisocial personality disorder.
