Introduction
21 Chump Street is a fourteen-minute long musical created by Lin-Manuel Miranda, who
is best known for writing and starring in Broadway musicals such as In the Heights. His other
notable works include Bring It On: The Musical, and Hamilton. 21 Chump Street was filmed at
the Brooklyn Academy of Music, New York, and was published in January 2018. It is one of the
episodes of This American Life series. Miranda converts what was previously reported as
journalism into a Broadway musical. 21 Chump Street is an example of theatrical success evident
by its production coupled with a stream of innovative ideas and unexpected turn of events that
capture the audience’s attention for the entire 14 minutes.
The musical poster is in its self artistic. It presents a green-themed image of a heart with
the icon of a Cannabis sativa leaf, commonly known as weed. At first glance, anyone intending
to stream the musical or attend its live performance has a hint of what to expect from this artistic
piece. It, however, leaves a lot of room for imagination, since the poster does not tell the entire
story. The title of the musical is a satirical reference to a 1987 TV show called 21 Jump Street
