Performance appraisal is the systematic procedure through which the various employee's
performances are evaluated at the workplace concerning the various projects attributed to them
in addition to their contribution to the organization s success. The criteria for performance
appraisals are based on the quality of work done by the employee. The upholding of particular
standards that brings better results as part of the job description meets appraisal standards. The
main purposes of appraisals are;

To initiate an employee’s effectiveness and productivity when it comes to their jobs with
consideration of the time and cost factor.

To foster employee initiative and ability to work without help or supervision.

To foster cooperative teamwork effort by a group or team that is aimed at the production
of particular results.
