Please respond, 200 words:
Gendercide
There is a serious issue that we have not discussed, the global gendercide of female infants, girls, and
women. The murder of females around the globe. Some have named it a War on Women due to their
gender. Today technology is being used to wage the war along with long standing social customs, culture,
religions, violence against women and girls, etc. Because the pictures and graphs have not appeared in this
post I have attached an attachment word doc with them since the graphics and pictures tell a worldwide
story very well and quickly, so open that for maps and graphs.
What do you all know about Gendercide? This is happening now, today, on our watch, in our world and
even in our nation. The maps and graphs on the linked story from The Economist Magazine, and also the
other link for the maps, tell the story using geographical mapping systems, geographical data on
population, etc. It is a terribly human story and one that we all need to be informed about. It leads to even
more questions than those that immediately arise. Could this mean more wars in the future due to gender
ratios being so far off from the natural numbers: for example, if a nation has too many marriageable aged
men and not enough women due to gendercide, can that spell upheaval and unrest for that nation and others
(such as "annexing" a weaker nation on their borders that has a normal population /gender ratio), in the
future? Think about that, global political leaders are concerned even beyond the moral and ethical issues to
the issues concerning the future potential for wars and aggression.
Comments and thoughts? Why does this happen in our world, and within our own nation, today? Can
Geographical subfields enlighten us and inform us about these topics? I hope the pictures and graphs come
thru they are really illuminating!
