What area of medicine and research are you interested in and how do you see this course contributing to it? ( intersted area in medicine is dental school and the course name is anatomy that I have this assignment for )

As you anticipate this course, what aspects of it—and medical education in general—concern you? ( anatomy )

  1. Reply Prompt: In forming each of your replies, consider your classmate's presentation summary and what your classmate's research involved. Did it parallel your research? If not, how did yours differ?

POST

use this as example for the replies ( this is one of my classmate answer )Thank you for sharing about your life and the things you had endured. I was raised in a Hindu nation till I was about 9 so I can sort of relate to your experiences with voodooism. Thought we were Christians, there were many Hindus and certain sects of even Christians in India that has similar practices but from where I was, they call it manthravadam. Some of those things were seemingly scary especially to children but my parents always made sure that we understood that the power of Jesus is greater than all of those things hence as long as we have Jesus, those things cannot harm us.I am so sorry to hear about your mother and your childhood as a refuge. Most people including myself cannot even fathom what that would have been like. I have heard stories about people being set on fire and being slaughtered for their faith, but I have personally never witnessed it and I count my self fortunate in some ways. I cannot imagine what it was like for you to watch your mother be set on fire and then not being able to see her for four years.I am sorry to hear about your thyroid issues. Both, hypo/hyperthyroidism has its own set of challenges. I know in third world countries in treating hyperthyroidism, they are quick to resort to ablation than to prescribe thioamides and steroids then they prescribe levothyroxine as a lifelong treatment for hypothyroidism. Some of the people ends up with issues regarding maintaining Parathyroid hormones but that is another issue altogether. Most of us, including myself truly do take our thyroid glands for granted. In your journey to become an endocrinologist, I am certain that all that you have endured will serve you. I wish you the best of luck in your journey in medicine.

Hey everyone, I know I am super early in posting this, but I am very excited for this class especially since the material is foundational, something I had previously neglected and regrets. My name is Rio, I am from Philadelphia, but I now live in Chicago to complete my medial rotations. I am a 3rd year medical student that attended a private medical school but is having a very hard time getting an adequate score on my NBME exams hence I have not attempted my USMLE exams. I was very ignorant and did not take anatomy seriously but tried to memorize enough for the exam, to get by. I am hoping that through this course, I can strengthen my foundations in basic sciences. I am grateful to God for opening my eyes to this second chance to relearn anatomy and physiology the right way. Watching the Intro video, I was ecstatic when Dr. Goodrich stated that, he will be doing clinical correlations. One of the ways anatomy and physiology plays a huge part in medicine is by helping us understanding the normal function of structures. Abnormalities can only be really understood if we have an adequate foundation in the normal structure and its function. For example, in arm abduction, we use a series of muscles and each of those muscles are innervated by a different nerve. The 1st fifteen degrees is by our supraspinatus muscle which is innervated by the suprascapular nerve. From 15 degrees to 100 degrees, our deltoid muscle helps in arm abduction which is innervated by our axillary nerve. Adduction greater than 100 degrees is due to our trapezius muscle and serratus anterior muscle and they are innervated by our accessory nerve and long thoracic nerve, respectfully. A patient that presents with a rotator cuff issues can have an injury to any of these muscles or they could have a lesion in a part of their brachial plexus or some form of nerve injury, specific to the muscle involved in arm abduction. We cannot adequately help this patient If we do not understand the normal function of the nerve and muscles involved in its context. This is just one of many examples that I had personally struggled with for the longest time. Even when seeing a patient with similar pathology on a board exam, it can be really confusing. It is also an amazing feeling when in rounds and when asked, you know exactly what is wrong with the patient. I hope to become a physician soon, and I wanted to apply for internal medicine or emergency medicine. I am 30 years old, so I wasted a lot of time, but my desire is to become medical missionary. I grew up in India till I was about 9 years old and my parents were in fulltime ministry. My parents felt called to go into different regions of India where the gospel was scarce. There, they started churches and used the little they had to teach the word of God amid poverty and hardship. My parents started home churches, something most of us have become customed to, due to covid-19 but with time, these home churches grew into bigger churches. My dad has been in ministry for 50 years now and both of my parents were very active in being missional in their calling. I do have a very small amount of experience doing research in the form of peer-reviewed journals, but I am open to research opportunities if God leads me that way. I have also completed a degree with liberty university in theological studies. Hello everyone, my name is Rose Prophete, I live in the beautiful sunshine state, Florida. I am happily married to a wonderful man of God, currently a deacon in our church, for 11 years and counting. God has blessed and trusted us with 2 beautiful daughters. The oldest is 9 years old and is in 5th grade, and the youngest is 5 years old in 1st grade. I am currently homeschooling both of my daughters through ABEKA, an online Christian program. If you haven't already said it, I have my hands full. But amazingly, the girls are already on fire for Jesus and I thank God for such a blessing. My oldest got baptized in December 2019 and it was the most amazing experience for me. It was such a privilege and an honor to see my 8-year-old daughter getting baptized because unlike me, she is very fortunate. I am originally from Haiti. I grew up in a family who didn't know Christ and was heavily involved in voodooism. But with God's plan for me, I received the call of Jesus in my life in the USA. I had to leave Haiti because my family was being politically persecuted. My mother was set on fire right before my eyes. The fire had already cooked both of her legs to a third-degree burn. Someone pulled her out, threw water over her to put out the fire, but, her legs were already charred where you can see the waxy white color. I was so traumatized, I could not stomach it. Soon after, I was rushed out of the country and did not see my mother again for 4 years. To this day, she has severe scarring with uneven skin on her legs and still suffered from pain once in a while. No doctor could do anything for her because the local hospital wasn't equipped for such a degree of burn. This is how bad the disparity in healthcare is in Haiti. Coming to the USA has been such a blessing to me and my life has changed in so many ways. With all the opportunities the USA offers, my goal is to become a doctor and contribute to fighting against healthcare disparity in underserved communities because I have experienced that all my life. I am always very fascinated by God's greatest creation, the human body, and how it works together to function. Therefore, I know this class will satisfy my curiosity. I look forward to learning about what nerves enervate what muscles to make the body do certain movements and how do they all work together to make our body so flexible. Until I was recently ill with thyroid disease, I did not know how important the thyroid gland is in the body. I learned so much about this disease and the thyroid gland that I want to become an endocrinologist to advance my knowledge in that area. Many people don't know its importance and how it can change your health the second it's not working properly. I'm excited to be in this course, in this program and I look forward to the challenges to come and by the grace of God, I know I will overcome them.
