I was wondering how much it would cost to answer this question... When should you use an agile method, and when should you use an engineering-based method for developing a system? Support you answer.

Enginering-based methods are well detailed and require lots of documentation. These would be used in projects that are tedious and require you to have every detail documented appropriately.

An agile method lessens this workload, which also saves more time, and this should be used for projects that do not require a lot of paperwork, if at all.

For example, engineering based is used in constructing a space probe for NASA where you need to consider the calculations of forces and materials used.

A fruit vendor  project would not need as many calculations because you can assume most fruits, their costs, packing materials tote boxes etc.
