CASE STUDY Background Started in 2015, Muscat Technologies (Pvt) Ltd is a leading Software Development company providing decent software development services in the local and global market. The services involves web development, system development, mobile and creative designing. The company develops and maintain software product that is sold to public as a commercial offthe-shelf product or on request. With more than 100 satisfied local as well as international customers globally, MT has made it’s spot as an highly progressing company in Oman. The company thrives to keep up the industry’s standards. The company has more than 400 employees and assets of OMR 5 Million. The CEO- Mr. Abdullah, focuses highly on maintaining both professional and trained individuals to ensure quality output. He strongly believes that the product quality have a high impact on customer satisfaction and retention. The company aims at providing quantifiable business value to customers through most current uses of technology to organizations worldwide. Focused teams are formed to handle any new project from the beginning and a combined business experience is applied to achieve the best customer service and expected results. However, through these years a concerning and unexpected amount of resources are utilized for software maintenance which may include either fixing the code or a requirement for reengineering. Even though the peer reviews were encouraged, but the programmers exhibit a fear that a critical review may affect their individual performance evaluation. Further, the resources essential to manage the number of change orders upcoming on a specific project were high, subsequent in budget overruns and extensive lead times. Some of the project-associated data about the software development process was available but it was not gathered or systematically analyzed. A part of total procedures and software processes were obtainable but were not well customized, measured, controlled and entirely documented. Some documented process also possessed significant issues like incompleteness or inaccurate. Based on the suggestions from external consultants and available statistics, Mr. Abdullah felt the need of some kind of way to standardize the company processes. A major and initial issue in implementing the solution was to both recognize the problem and to identify a structured quality process to solve it. Another major issue he faced was the cost and schedule estimations were undependable. As an assistant to Mr. Hassan, your task is to prepare a report which includes: 1. Identify all the problems stated in this case study. 2. Justify the requirement of a Quality Department in the company by explaining on what additional value it can add to the company. 3. Suggest on how to ensure quality in each of the four dimensions. 4. Suggest ways to achieve quality from the standpoint of core functionality and ancillary functionality and how to measure the quality of a software product using a composite metric. 5. Explain how the verification and validation processes may help your company in overcoming the identified problems. 6. Suggest the best suitable approach for defining the processes in your company. 7. Requirement of certifications and the benefit of achieving it. 8. CMMI and maturity levels. 9. Identify and discuss the factors in detail on the key process areas which characterize each level. 10.
