Summary of the Teaching Plan

Community health focuses on both physical and mental health care of members of a
community in a specified geographic region. In the nursing practice, educating the community
on health care has become an important initiative that helps the community members maintain
and improve their health, prevent the spread of infectious diseases, and prepare for natural
disasters. Teaching the community on health issues is beneficial in equipping the people with
adequate knowledge about their health and also helping the community members look beyond
themselves and assume a collective responsibility in protecting the community's health. This
being my first time to participate in teaching the community about health care, I was well
prepared to utilize the nursing skills I have acquired to help promote their better health and give
back to the community. My task was teaching the community about diabetes since diabetes and
how people progress to its complication has become an epidemic nationwide. In this paper, I will
discuss my teaching experience in a community that was carried out at Skyline health care
facility.

The teaching plan entailed the introduction to my topic of diabetes, whereby I planned to
discuss its causes, symptoms, treatment, and prevention. It also entailed the objectives of
