Question Description

A ball dropped from a state of rest at time t=0 travels a distance s(t)=4.9t^2 m in t seconds.

How far does the ball travel during the time interval (2,2.5)

To find a change in distance travelled, take the final distance and subtract the initial distance:

s(2.5) - s(2) = The distance travelled on the half-second interval [2, 2.5]

[4.9*(2.5)^2 - 4.9(2)^2] m

4.9*(6.25 - 4) m

4.9*2.25 m = 11.025 m

If significant figures are important here, it should probably be 11. or (1.1 x 10) m
