### Question Description

A man purchased 4 boards that are each 17 feet to make 14 5/8 footboards for gazebo. Upon measuring, he finds they are 16 15/16 feet, 17 1/8 feet, 17 feet and 16 13/16 feet. How much must be removed from each board to get 14 5/8 feet boards?

4 gazebo of 14 5/8

each gazebo is (14*8+5)/8 = 117/8

first board = 16 15/16 =(16*16+15)/16= 271/16

extra is=271/16 - 117/8 =(271-234)/16 ==> 37/16

second board= 17 1/8 =( 17*8+1)/8= 137/8

extra = 137/8 - 117/8 ==> 20/8

third board = 17

extra = 17-117/8 = (136-117)/8 ==>19/8

forth board = 16 13/16 =(16*16+13)/16= 269/16

extra = 269/16 - 117/8= (269-234)/16 ==>35/16
