A man purchased 4 boards that are each 17 feet to make 14 5/8 foot boards for gazebo. Upon measuring, he finds they are 16 15/16 feet, 17 1/8 feet, 17 feet. How much must be removed from each board to get 14 5/8 foot boards?

first board = 16 15/16 =(16*16+15)/16= 271/16

    extra is=271/16 - 117/8 =(271-234)/16 ==> 37/16

second board= 17 1/8 =( 17*8+1)/8= 137/8

   extra = 137/8 - 117/8 ==> 20/8

third board = 17

   extra = 17-117/8 = (136-117)/8 ==>19/8
