Final Portfolio Instructions for Week 5 to review:Final Paper Draft
Review the Final Portfolio instructions found in Week Five. This assignment will require you to assess your concept of self, your communication skills, strengths and weaknesses, challenges, and opportunities for growth. The draft should address the issues listed in the assignments that have been covered through the first three weeks of this class.
The draft must be three to four pages in length (excluding title and reference pages) and formatted according to APA style. The draft must contain an introduction with thesis statement, at least three body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Identify at least four theories or models of communication you have studied in the course, and apply them to the forms of communication as noted in the Final Portfolio instructions in Week Five (Interpersonal Communication, Group Communications, and Organizational Communications). The three body paragraphs should individually address each of the three forms of communication. You must use at least three scholarly resources, one of which can be found in the Ashford University Library, to support your claims and sub claims. Cite your resources in text and on the reference page. In this final assignment, you will assess your skills in interpersonal, group, and organizational communications based on your studies of these forms of communication. Address each of these forms of communication individually in the portfolio, assessing your overall skills in this area and then specifically addressing the issues listed below. Additionally, apply at least four of the theories or models of communication you have studied in the course to these three forms of communication. The list below must be addressed in the body paragraphs of your portfolio and must contain a clear point and relate back to the thesis statement.Be sure to incorporate the feedback that was provided to you in your draft from Week Three. The Final Portfolio must be seven to eight pages in length (excluding title and reference pages). Use at least five scholarly resources, at least two of which can be found in the Ashford Online Library, to support your claims and sub claims. The Final Portfolio must be formatted according to APA style, and all resources must be properly cited in text as well as on the reference page. Writing the Final Portfolio
The Final Portfolio
- Must be seven to eight double-spaced pages in length, and formatted according to APA style as outlined in the Ashford Writing Center.
- Must include a title page with the following:
- Title of paper
- Student’s name
- Course name and number
- Instructor’s name
- Date submitted
- Must begin with an introductory paragraph that has a succinct thesis statement.
- Must address the topic of the paper with critical thought.
- Must end with a conclusion that reaffirms your thesis.
- Must use at least five scholarly resources, including a minimum of two from the Ashford Online Library.
- Must document all sources in APA style, as outlined in the Ashford Writing Center.
- Must include a separate reference page, formatted according to APA style as outlined in the Ashford Writing Center.
Carefully review the Grading Rubric for the criteria that will be used to evaluate your assignment.

Effective Communication
Effective communication is vital. All of the life activities revolve around effective
communications and how effective communication is dependent on the people involved in
communication and the channels of communication (Coble & Schulz, 2013). Depending on an
individual's communications skills, the communication strengths and weaknesses he possesses,
communication can be useful or ineffective. These also possess challenges when communicating
with different social groups and creating relationships. Hence, this document will focus on
effective communication touching on the models of communication and the various forms of
communication.
Communication is a two-way process that involves decoding, transmitting and encoding a
message to reach a mutual understanding where participants create, share and exchange
information, news, feelings, and ideas. Hence, developing excellent communication skills
ensures that the message is not misconceived and is received as intended by the recipient. It also
helps build strong relationships with the people that one interacts.
When communicating, it is essentials for an individual to understand one's self so that it
is possible to predict or form a prejudgment on how the person behaves in a different situation
and how to manage one's physical and emotional forces. Self-concept is, therefore, the
individual’s perception of their abilities, behavior, and unique characteristics; it is a mental
picture of a person's personal traits. It also reflects an individual's membership to different social
groups. Self-concept enables one to develop excellent communications to satisfy both their
person and the people within their social groups. For, instance, I am a good listener, I can speak
