Introduction
Neurocognitive and Neurodevelopmental both are types of mental disorders.
Neurocognitive functions are closely connected with the function of the brain. Neurocognitive
disorders were previously known as dementia. This kind of disorders affects the memory of the
person, learning capacity, language, problem-solving, and perception. The neurodevelopmental
disorder is also a type of mental disorder which affects the growth and development of nervous
system. It affects the function of the brain such as emotion, self-control, and memory. This paper
will discuss one neurodevelopmental disorder Down Syndrome and one neurocognitive disorder
Alzheimer. It will also discuss behavioral criteria and incidence rates and causes of Down
Syndrome and Alzheimer. In the last, this paper will suggest two options for treatment for Down
Syndrome and Alzheimer.
Alzheimer Neurocognitive and Down Syndrome Neurodevelopmental disorders
There are several types of Neurocognitive and Neurodevelopmental disorders but in this paper, I
have chosen Down syndrome for Neurodevelopmental disorder and Alzheimer for Neurocognitive
disorder. These disorders are becoming a challenge for the United States in the health sector which
affects millions of people.
Down syndrome: A Neurodevelopmental disorder
In a human body, there are numerous cells and these cells have a nucleus that is comprised
of genetic material. Genes are grouped like a structure called as a chromosome. The nucleus of
each cell consists of 23 pairs of chromosomes, half of which are passed down from each parent.
Down syndrome occurs when an individual contains a full or partial copy of chromosome 21. Due
