1 With the ever growing global company in today's market, there are increasing opportunity fir employees to work abroad. This is a wonderful chance for employees within the company to promote as well as travel the world and experience other cultures. While this all seems attractive companies often forget many employee's have families. As an active duty military member my family has experienced the hardships of global travel. It is hard on family members especially stay at home moms. The struggle of new culture adaptation and the language barrier can even make many return home to their creature comforts. With this issue comes many employees wanting to return with their families. The question is how do they combat this issue. The foolowing are things that I have found to help throughout my travels in the last ten years. 1) Companies can provide spouse's groups that allow all the spouses an outlet and time to vent and help each other cope. People are social and most need to feel accepted by their peers. In a new country that they may not be able to communicate in this could potentially cause them to feel isolated and want to return home. 2) Companies should implement cultural tours and classes to the spouses to help them adapt and understand their new environment. People are resistant to change, and they may not know how to change their entire life to a new culture. The tours and classes could allow more spouses to embrace their surroundings. 3) Companies could provide spouses the ability to have travel covered in their employee's fringe benefits that allow them to return to America on a quarterly or bi-annually basis. While this is more on the expensive side for the company, it would once again show the spouses that the company cares about them as well as the employee. This could allow the company to increase their attractiveness to potential employers as well. These are a few items that I have either seen or heard of throughout my travels in the Air Force. The more a company embraces their employees families, the more the family members are inclined to embrace the culture. However, if their isolated and feel like the company is only concerned with the employee they will remain unhappy and most likely create more friction for the employee in their home life. Respond: 2 There are ways to ameliorate the main problem of the expatriate's family not being able to adjust to living in another country. One way that I could see that would help fix the problem would be to provide cultural training to not only the expatriate but the family or spouse too. I believe that would definitely help the family adjust. The company can also make the adjustment to living in a different country easier by helping to find relocation services, helping with networking resources that will help the family meet other expats, and to help come up with events and activities that will help the family and spouse increase their contacts (Verma, n.d.). I could also see the host country providing some type of expatriate professional to help make the transition easier and help the expatriate and their family adjust when it comes to finding housing, schools for the children, and answering and helping with any issues or concerns. I believe that the company and the host country should be on the same page and provide as much support as possible to ensure that the expatriate and their family are adjusting well so that the expatriate will not fail. If the family feels supported and feels like they have someone there to help them along, I believe that the process will go a lot smoother and the expatriate and his or her family will adjust properly to living in another country. Many of the developed companies spread their services and products in many
regions including outside the state of establishment.This is usually for the purposes of
reaching more customers while enhancing its business by broadening its market. This
helps the company to grow and accrue more income. However this is not without various
challenges. One of the challenges is borne by its staff who undergoes a hard time while
they and their spouses and children try to adopt the way of life in a foreign state.
When a firm establishes a branch in a foreign nation, it transfers some of its
experienced employees to work in the foreign new branches.These people encounter
problems especially before they get used to the new environment. However companies
can prevent or mitigate such challenges. This can be through according ample time to the
anticipated employees moving to the new countries to visit them before being posted for
employment. The businesses should fund their visits in order for them to go and survey
the new environment. This will instill confidence of being capable to coup in the new
foreign environment even when they move with their spouses and children.
Conducting educational sessions to the employees by the company about the new
environment is an important may to prevent this kind of problem. This can include but
