Introduction
This paper majorly focuses on two key figures, namely Elizabeth I and Mary, Queen of Scots.
The two were close relatives who, for over 20 years, dominated the politics of England and
Scotland. Elizabeth took over the England throne, but according to most of the people, including
the Catholics, she was not worthy of that position. They considered Mary, Queen of Scots to fit
the position and within her struggles, she died. The cousins were not in good terms because of
the throne's inheritance, which was considered powerful. Mary's plan to assassinate Elizabeth
caused more alarm, and Elizabeth signed for Mary's death, and the parliament and councilors
supported this. Elizabeth had a divided mind since she still thought that killing her cousin would
also cause a lot of uproars. Pressure from outside made Elizabeth give in, and she allowed Mary
to be sentenced. Elizabeth always felt guilty even after Mary's death, arguing that her advisors
betrayed her wishes (Plowden, 2011).
Mary faced a lot of challenges and mental stress. The letters she wrote to James VI of Scotland,
who was her son, were rejected by him. He avoided Mary and went for Elizabeth after realizing
that her mother had no powers of naming him the heir in the English throne. This explains how
Mary was avoided and left alone due to a lack of power after her cousin took over. Mary being a
Catholic, also made her receives a lot of criticism. The following have been discussed in this
paper: Historiography, the complication of the relationship between Elizabeth I and Mary Queen
of Scots-under this, the politics of religion, use of letters as a mode of communication, and the
execution are explained as critical scenarios that made their relationships to look complicated.
Lastly, conclusions have been made, including the personal opinion.

cynical, while Mary was romantic, reckless, and charming. Elizabeth was born in 1533 at
Greenwich Palace. Elizabeth liked education and spent most of her time with books that engaged
her thoughts. Elizabeth could not afford the high life, especially after she lost her father and
Edward VI. Her younger brother took the throne and could not treat Elizabeth in life, such as that
of Mary. It reached a point that Elizabeth was quarantined to prevent her from further
disappointment, especially Seymour, who wanted to marry her and claim property of Elizabeth's
father (Richards, 2013).
Mary Queen of Scot was born in the same year with Elizabeth I at Linlithgow Palace, Scotland.
Mary received excellent treatment especially during her tender ages since she was moved from
one palace to the other being protected from clans of highlands which were detected as bad and
could ruin the life of an individual especially w...
