As you begin your practicum, it is important that you assess not only your current abilities and skills as they relate to the nine social work competencies and identified practice behaviors, but also your personal and professional strengths and weaknesses For this discussion, you will complete the Self-Assessment of Practice Strengths and share your expectations and concerns about your practicum with your cohort.

- Review the rubric to make sure you understand the criteria for earning your grade.
- In your textbook, The Social Work Practicum: A Guide and Workbook for Students, read Chapter 1, “Purpose and Expectations for Practicum”.
- Complete the “Self-Assessment of Practice Strengths: A Workbook Activity” found in this chapter, focusing on the Pre-Practicum Self-Assessment section.
- Navigate to the threaded discussion and respond to the following questions:
- Identify two areas from the self-assessment activity that you feel are where you need the most growth and explain why.
- Identify two areas from the self-assessment activity that you feel are your greatest strengths and explain why.
- Describe one thing you will do during your practicum to improve in the areas of growth you identified.
- Describe your expectations and anxieties related to your practicum. Identify and explain at least one of each.
- Describe what one thing you most hope to get out of this practicum experience and what steps you can take meet this goal.
