I have a 1997 GMC Jimmy SLS 4.3l v6 4 door 2wd. The ignition switch sometimes does not engage. The radio will come on and the car will turn over but, the fuel pump does not click on and no lights in the dash. This also happens while I am driving sometimes. Usually I can put the car in neutral while driving and turn the key to restart the car. What is causing this?
An occasional problem on this vehicle is the Ignition Switch and Lock Cylinder. This condition can cause an electrical circuit to not power up or the vehicle to not start.
The cost to repair the Ignition Switch and Lock Cylinder is $183.75 for parts and $84.50 for labor. All prices are estimates based on $65.00 per flat rate hour and do not include diagnostic time or any applicable sales tax.
