Description

Scenario: You own a fairly successful eatery and microbrewery with cafe tables that seat 1,000 customers at any one time and serve several types of ethnic food in a large barn-like space in Chicago, Illinois. The restaurant has 15,000 square feet with 25-foot ceilings. After several years in business, and increasing competition, you have decided that you are really in the entertainment business. Besides food offerings, you decide you will create a large games venue with a small stage for live entertainment. Since you can put in a second floor above the restaurant area you will not have to worry about purchasing extra land. You currently have 60 employees which includes four (4) managers that work either day or evening shifts 7 days a week. You determine only another 20 employees will need to be hired to service the games area of the venue where drinks will also be served.

The bank to which you are applying for an expansion loan wants to see how you will plan for this major change and how you will execute this plan successfully to justify the loan. Provide a convincing introductory memo (i.e. cover memo) to the banking officer that will summarize your basic change management plan that will convince the officer to approve the loan. You may consult the Writing Center regarding writing persuasive memos through Academic Tools.

CHANGE MANAGEMENT

Introduction
Change management can be defined as supporting business to achieve prosperity by
changing processes, the company's structure, job roles, as well as embracing technological
advancements. Change management outlines how staff, employees, and managers can be prepared
to adopt a business change hence helping to realize certain objectives (Finch, 2018). As an owner
of a reasonably prosperous eatery and microbrewery with a café containing 1000 seats, I have been
in a position to operate for several years serving distinct ethnic foods in a huge barn-like space in
Chicago. I would like to restructure my business due to increased competition whereby I intend to
put a game venue on the second floor above the restaurant space. I currently have 60 workers, of
which 4 of them are managers. As such, I will need to recruit 20 more employees. Therefore, this
paper is focused on identifying the goals of the change management initiative, the initial action
plan, tools and processes to use, including how each step will be executed and part of this involves
discussing the leadership strategies that will guide the plan.
Goals of initiating game venue
There are several reasons why I intend to restructure my café. Generally, the most
fundamental goal is to cope with increasing competition in the market. Currently, there has been
stiff competition within the market for cafes that offer several ethnic foods and drinks like that of
mine. Therefore, in order to out win my competitors, I need to increase the services that I provide
so that customers will prefer my café. Again, there is a huge number of people in Chicago who
take their meals in cafes, and as such, I would like to capture a large market for my business by
providing additional services of live entertainments.
I chose to establish game entertainment as a form of my business change because the
citizens of Chicago have a unique passion and interest in sports (Gill, 2017). I also need to increase

my café's returns. Since I have not yet reached the target of my earnings, I chose to expand my
business to realize more returns as scheduled in the business plan. And finally, I decided to initiate
change in my business to establish a culture of innovation where I will introduce new technology
to entertain my customers.
The initial action plan for implementing my change initiative
For the change initiative to be implemented, I have set up some initial implementation steps
to lead to its success. For instance, the very initial step is to build a culture of innovation within
the business. This will involve letting employees raise their ideas on what is most helpful, what
needs to be innovated, and what kind of change in technology can be of help. In this case, the best
gadgets like TV sets have been outlined as some of the most crucial for the success of this initiative
as they can be used as channels to live entertainment (Zel, 2019).
The second step of the action plan is changing or adding some of the businesses' services.
I outlined that we will have to increase our services where drinks will also be provided in the game
revenue as it is the culture associated with too many viewers. We will expect that our customers
will be interested in taking some refreshments while watching the games. This will mainly increase
our sales volume and, hence, high revenues, which is my business concern. Thirdly, I will
implement or recruit 20 more workers. For the change initiative to work successfully, I will be
required to hire 20 more employees who will help to ensure the initiative becomes a success. These
employees will act as the attendants of game revenue, serving the drinks, controlling the charging
rates, and drawing the accounts. This will help us determine if we are making a profit or loss with
implementing the change initiative.
The fourth step will include offering some training to employees and managers who will
serve the game venue. They will be provided training based on the best practices of game venue

attendants. This will include giving them knowledge-based on charging rates depending on the
intensity and popularity of the game being viewed. It will ensure that these customers are not
exploited and hence retained, making them draw even more customers leading to high market
share. This will also help them counter stiff competition from other cafes that offer similar services
and products.
Finally, I will aim at implementing new technologies in the game venue. This will involve
employing high technology designed seats with charging systems and table-like projections that
will attract more customers. With high technology tools, more customers will prefer our game
venue, and they will even intr...
