Description

I'm sure you have read authors who have written about places or things in such a way that we learn more about the authors, and we learn more about ourselves.

I would like you to write a 3 to 5 page essay that presents a particular place or item as unique in some way. For example, you might choose to present an apartment that you lived in as representing a particular part of your life, or you might choose to present a gravestone as a reminder of some relationship you shared with a departed. Your goal in this essay is not to simply create a description of the place or thing, but to use that description to tell us something about ourselves—about being human.

There is a sample essay attached for your guidance.

Paper requirement: Word Document, double spaced, 12 pt font, with uniform one-inch margins. Include in the heading your name, the assignment title (i.e. paper # 1 revised draft), and the date. Page numbers should be placed at the top right margin, preferably with your last name.

Special Thing- Rough Draft The sun is blaring; humidity levels are high and the wind blows scarcely. Sweat glares off my arms and forehead as I move like a zombie to clean my car out. “Nick, do you want some water?” Asks my mom from the garage. It’s too hot to answer, I simply turn to her and nod in acceptance, she walks me over a cup and I gulp the entire contents within seconds. As she indicate the card in her hand, “pulled over at 4:00a.m. to help us out. We didn’t have any money so he gave us all a business card and told us to eat at his restaurant every time we were in that area” My sister hands me back the card. “Cute story. It’s too hot; I’m going back in. Hurry and clean your beater out, mom said the buyer will be here any minute.” I look at my car and crack a small smile. walks back into the house I tum to see all the junk I’ve acquired in my car over the past few years. I pop a homemade mixed tape into the old school Kiesha Cole’s raspy voice blares from my speakers, “I changed my mind, you weren’t all bad, we had our good times” cassette player and continue cleaning while listening to Miley Cyrus raspy voice sing the lyrics “gotta move onnnn!” The first thing I grab to throw away is a water gun, super soaker 350 I wait for my sister to walk back inside before putting the card in my pocket. I open my console and continue cleaning. I shift though old receipts and hall passes. I grab a handful and shove them into the garbage bag. I tum to be exact. I chuckle when the memory of purchasing the weapon jumped to make sure I had grabbed them all and I notice one lonely worn out receipt into my head. Dan yell and me couldn’t sleep one night and since I was the left. I picked it up and looked out of curiosity. It was a gas receipt for $3.67. I only one with a car I snuck out to go pick her up. Bored and broke we laugh hard as I remember my minimum wage, paycheck-topaycheck high decided to go to Wal-Mart and the water gun happened to be on sale so we school self comes into mind. I had gotten the car when I was 16 and it had combined our money and bought it. We then went to the Wal-Mart defiantly been used and abused. Refusing to drive a beater I chose a bathroom to fill up the guns and spent the rest of the evening driving by Volkswagen that required premium gas. I had been late to work one day and shooting unsuspecting pedestrians with water. When I dropped her off she needed gas bad but didn’t even have a dollar in my bank account. Unsure of stuck the water gun under my seat ‘just in case I saw someone hot on the what to do I cracked open my piggy bank and bought a $3.67 gallon and half side of the road’. in quarters, nickels, dimes and pennies. I guess I kept the receipt to remind The tape skips before the song finishes, “gotta keep on moving on” I look up to see my sister coming outside. She starts looking around at what I’m doing. I grabbed an old business card lodged in a crack between my passenger visor and mirror. My sister walked over and snatched the card myself of the sacrifices I had made to have the car of my 16- year-old dreams. The music stops, so I flip the cassette and wait for the music to start again. “Hurry up Nick, they called and said they’re on their way, it’s out of my grip, “Nikki, why do you have a Mario’s Pizzaria business card? almost over!” I take a step back and examine the car. I know I had begged That’s all the way in Galveston!” A huge grin is placed across my face as I and pleaded with my mom to help me sell the car because of its bad confide a secret to her. “Remember last new years when I said I was with condition but I had never noticed how many stories that piece of metal had. I Kendra and came home the next day on a donut? Well me, Julie, Juan, walk around the car, touching the bent rim I got from ‘accidentally’ cutting Stephanie and Jose actually drove out to Galveston.” My sister interrupts, over the median, the busted bumper id received from backing into a porter “What!” Mom would kill you if she knew!” “Exactly” I respond. “and she potty at the haunted house, the loose handle from playing lock my brother almost did find out. On our way home my tire blew out and none of us knew out of the car during traffic and even the hanging side mirror I recently how to change it. So we stayed on the side ofthe road until this guy,” I damaged due to my inability to accurately judge how close is too close to pull up to a drive through window. The song finally starts and Rascall Flatts blow out of my speakers, “don’t change your mind now honey, sometimes you gotta just let go” I break my stare from my car when I hear a door shut to my left. An older lady was walking towards me followed by a timid looking teenager. My mom rushes outside and her and the gray haired lady disappear inside to exchanged money and the car title. I turn back to see the girl apprehensively examining the car, as I had been doing up until their arrival. She didn’t’ look as amazed by the minor body damage as I was. I approach her with a smile and hand her the keys. She reaches for them and looks to thank me. My eyes quickly begin to water as I turn over my first car to this stranger, before she can say anything I take one last look at the beautiful German made machinery and wish her the same happiness it brought me. We both walk towards the car as Romon Ayala’s soothing voice softly seeps through, “starting over isn’t that bad, just remember what your leaving in your past”

The ambience within the room gives one a feeling of relaxation and contentment. The
early morning sun rays gives a new hope for a new day and the hope of a good day ahead. Just
looking outside the widow, the surrounding environment makes one feel contented because of its
green and calm environment. I walk myself to my couch and think to myself of all the
achievements I have made just by looking around the apartment. The apartment also gives me
the realization of some of the challenges I have faced and the efforts I had to put to get to where I
was. Though it may not be to the level that I expect, but at my age achieving these goals gives
me a feeling of fulfilment.
The first thing that I touch while walking around the room is the remote and switch on
the television. Doing this makes me feel proud as I remember all the extra efforts that I had to
make to achieve it. It wa...
