HTN, CAD, DCT, PAD Case Study
Mark, age 45, is brought to the ED at 1220 by ambulance with complaints of chest pain. He states the pain
lasted about 5 minutes and then went away. He also felt diaphoretic and nauseated but did not vomit. He was
interviewing a perspective employee over lunch at the time the symptoms started. He states he has had similar
pain when he shoveled snow, but it went away when he stopped shoveling snow. He does smoke 546 packs per
year (PPY) and has 1 to 2 bottles of wine a day.
Nursing Assessment:
• VS: BP - 192/98; HR - 78 regular; R - 24; T - 98.7; POX - 96% RA
• Airway: lungs clear
• Circulation: no edema; pulses equal and strong in all 4 extremities
• Disability: A&Ox3, moves all extremities equally
• Skin: pink, warm, and dry
• General Appearance: healthy appearing, well nourished, approximately 20 kg overweight
