Hortus conclusus: In Latin, this term refers to an enclosed garden. The literal analogy of
this term is the enclosure. This figure has been employed in renaissance poetry, manuscripts, and
other forms of art from the early14th century. The Hortus conclusus shows a symbolic attribute of
purity manifested by the Virgin Mary resting in an enclosed garden. A perfect example of Hortus
