However, a week later, the shower in her Condo started leaking into the garage underneath, demanding a quick measure to resolve the problem. In answer to the call, the landlady hired contractors with the lowest estimate who turned the Condo to an unbearable noisy workshop that was not fit for anyone, let alone a newborn and a new mother battling postpartum stress and fresh wounds. The following weeks were a nightmare for Maggie, and Everest for the construction would start at six in the morning until dark. This must have been exhausting and hard to deal with for weeks, given that she was a new mother, asthmatic, and the baby would not sleep with the hammering and the high temperatures that ranged from 105 to 115 degrees. Various things can contribute to the hardships first-time mothers encounter, let alone having people come into their house, being noisy, and keeping the baby awake. Although new babies need an average of fifteen hours of sleep, the first two months should be comprised of a total of 16 to 18 hours. Speaking from experience observing and helping my elder sister through motherhood, it is challenging being a new mother. I would not like to imagine how it was for Maggie to be alone in the most unconducive environment ever to nurturing a newborn. I also wonder why the workers would use sledgehammers or tore up the tiles and the concrete underneath only to fix a leaking shower. Maggie could not even use her bedroom as it was covered in layers of powder and had to convert her nursery and the living room to his home for a few weeks. Despite the hardships of being a new mother and the destruction from the reconstruction that was happening, the last thing Maggie needed was to relinquish her room and her comfortable bed for weeks. CRITICAL ESSAY 3 Maggie and her family lived in a desert and being summer, the heat was unbearable both outside and inside, which ranged from 105 to 115 degrees. The aging air conditioners were also not helpful for the house was getting hot with the heat from outside. I can only contemplate how hard it was for Maggie having had a Caesarean section and was all sweaty and uncomfortable. The odds are the sweat would have probably gotten into the cut, which could have led to an infection. Everest was also sweaty and was crying and tired all along, which made it more challenging for Maggie. Given that Everest did not sleep much, Maggie turned to "Project Runway," a television series where she got some inspiration to fix the mess and get crafty amidst her nightmare. Maggie needed the construction crew to hurry and wide up the construction, but they were slow and didn't even seem to care. However, with the inspiration from Tim Gunn, she was able to handle the second crew that came to fix the shower doors, thus avoiding more weeks of loud noises and sleepless nights for her and Everest. Although the shower would eventually have to be fixed, it would make more sense to wait until it was a little hot or when Everest was a bit older to avoid the inconvenience (Downs, 2015). Maggie needed the right inspiration to face her misfortune, which would have long been evaded if she had the right people to support and advise her. This article is a representation of the hardships faced in the community due to lack of expression, which is paramount to creating a conducive place for everyone. Therefore, the community should strive to help new mothers and advocate for the right of expression at all costs. Working thesis and Supporting paragraphs The working thesis in the critical essay focuses on the challenges that come with being a new mother, especially in cases where there are other external factors involved. The theme of the critical essay is evident in the supporting paragraph in the draft, which elaborates on the CRITICAL ESSAY 4 hardships the author encountered, as narrated in the "Tim Gunn and a Leaky Shower: Welcome to My Life, Little Guy” article. Based on the essay's thesis, readers can anticipate what to expect in the body paragraphs as the arguments are clearly discussed in the paragraphs. Other readers can also connect to the theme at hand without my explanation as the supporting paragraphs narrate the hardships a new mother faces and how they impact her life and that of her child. The supporting paragraphs also illustrate how new mothers strive to move past their hardships by clinging to distractions, which later results to be some of the most resourceful measures they have ever taken. The supporting paragraphs also demonstrate how new mothers can evade possible distractions by speaking out and expressing their views. In the “Tim Gunn and a Leaky Shower: Welcome to My Life, Little Guy” article, the author narrates the hardships she had to ensure after coming home to a leaky shower after days in delivery. The author also describes how her newborn had to endure sleepless days and discomfort from the construction and the heat from outside. Although friends and relatives can be helpful in times like this, the author's advice was not applicable in her case because the baby never slept. The author then turned to a television series, "Project Runway," which acts as an eye-opener and gives her the courage to face the situation. The insight from Tim Gunn “Make it Work" provides the author with the audacity to face the situation, and to boldly speak to the second constructors who made life a little hard for her and the baby. In this case, the only solution was communication/ speaking out to reach an agreement that suits everyone. The communication topic was the most relevant in this case, as the latter elaborates on how proper communication can save one from unnecessary distractions. The topic of speaking out is clearly developed in the supporting paragraph, which makes it easy for readers to comprehend without an explanation. The supporting paragraphs also discuss the freedom of expression and elaborate CRITICAL ESSAY 5 how it could have helped the author achieve a more conducive environment for her baby. The topic on community is also incorporated in the essay. This is also evident in the supporting paragraphs, which encourage the community to help new mothers in the new phase of life.
