1983 by E. Dean Butler on Mason, Ohio with a single store. Over the years the company has
expanded across the nation and across the globe. The company currently has 850 locations with
90 stores in California. The company is an internal leader in prescription eyewear and
sunglasses. The operational strategy of Lens Crafters has resulted in the company’s great success
which have allowed them to outperform their competitors. Lens Crafters has gained the
competitive advantage through their unique differentiation strategy.
Operational Strategy
An operational strategy involves the strategies and approaches employed by the company
in order to meet company goals and objectives (Hill, 2005). Lens Crafters operational strategy
has been to employ innovative technology and offer a product which differentiates itself in the
market. The company has created an operational strategy by developing an individualized
corporate strategy, developing and gaining core competencies, developing customer driven
strategies, and developing technological processes in order to provide innovative new products to
